It is a separate fraud, quality assurance and other investigations unit that addresses the over issuance of public assistance programs, establishing claims, recovery of over-payments through administrative procedures and criminal prosecution independent of the units performing eligibility and benefit determination functions. The primary duties of the unit are the enforcement of the provisions of the Welfare and Institutions Code. Investigators in the Unit shall be peace officers pursuant to Penal Code section 830.35.
