County Administrative Officer
The County Administrative Officer (CAO) is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors. The CAO provides research, information and recommendations on community issues and is responsible for implementing the direction of the Board of Supervisors. The CAO also serves all of the executive functions of the Board including coordinating the work of county departments, representing the County in the community and at intergovernmental events and guiding County departments in matters that are the responsibility of the Board.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the County Administrative Officer include:
- Acting as an agent and representative of the Board
- Developing, recommending and monitoring County budgets
- Developing, recommending and enforcing Board policy
- Developing, recommending and coordinating County strategic initiatives
- Recommending efficient management and operating procedures
- Recommending effective administrative reorganizations
- Monitoring state and federal legislation
- Contributing to the County risk management and safety committees
- Overseeing County real estate holdings and management
- Coordinating County application and receipt of state and federal grants
- Acting as the County purchasing agent
- Acting as the County public information officer
- Acting as the County assistant director of emergency services
- Managing economic development efforts
- Managing technical services within the County
