Calling All Student Artists & Writers!

April is County Government Month and to celebrate, the County of Mariposa is again sponsoring coloring, poster, and essay contests for the students of Mariposa County.

DUE DATES

  • Coloring and Poster Contest Entries are due by 5 p.m., Friday, March 29th.
  • Essay Contest Entries are due by 5 p.m., Friday, April 5th.

Coloring Contest (Grades K through 3)

To enter, just download our coloring sheet (PDF) and submit to the address above.
Three winners will be chosen from grades K-1, and another three will be chosen from grades 2-3.

1st Place winners will receive a 152 piece Crayola Ultimate Crayon Collection
and
The winners' classrooms will also receive a class-sized box of crayons.

3rd Place

3rd Place winners will receive a 64 count box of Crayola Crayons 


Poster Contest (Grades 4 through 8)

To win, create an original poster that illustrates the way that counties positively impact the lives of resident and which uses the theme "Connecting the Unconnected."

Download the poster contest packet for full rules. Submit by the deadline to the address above. Entries will be judged by the Mariposa County Arts Council and winners displayed in the Tree Top Gallery.

Three winners will be chosen from grades 4-5, and another three will be chosen from grades 6-8 and the following prizes will be awarded:

Grades 4-5

  • 1st Place: $15 and an Art Kit ($35 value)
  • 2nd Place: $10
  • 3rd Place: $5

Grades 6-8

  • 1st Place: $25 and an Art Kit ($45 value)
  • 2nd Place: $20
  • 3rd Place: $15


Essay Contest (Grades 9 through 12)

To win, write an original essay, typed in MLA format, that discusses the types and breadth of work that counties perform for its residents.

Download the essay contest packet. Submit by the deadline to the address above. Entries will be judged by the Mariposa Gazette and winning entries will be published in the newspaper.

In addition, three winners will be chosen and the following prizes will be awarded:

  • 1st Place: $75 cash and a laptop computerPhotograph of a laptop computer with screen open.
  • 2nd Place: $50 cash
  • 3rd Place: $25 cash
