CalFresh Healthy Living

CAlFresh Healthy Living

Our CalFresh Health Living program (formerly SNAP-Ed) brings science-based education on healthy eating and being active to youth and the community.  With the right information, everyone has the opportunity 'to make the healthy choice the easy choice." This includes:

  • Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables
  • Replacing sugary beverages with water
  • Enjoying fun, low-cost physical activity each day

We look for potential policy, systems and environmental change strategies to improve the health of our community.

  • Each year our Educators provided “healthy eating and being active” classroom instruction to over 550 students in 24 classrooms at Mariposa Elementary School, Lake Don Pedro Elementary, and Greeley Hill Elementary School. Our interactive curriculum is standards based, and features tastings, physical activity, and parent newsletters.
  • We are an active participant on the Mariposa County Unified School District (MCUSD) School Wellness Policy Committee, providing technical assistance on USDA required policy updates for school wellness policies.
  • Continue classroom education, with an addition of the "Smarter Lunchrooms Movement"
  • Assist with school garden refurbishment and maintenance in alignment with our garden-based curriculum.

  • Monthly collaboration at USDA emergency food distribution events in Mariposa, Greeley Hill, and the Senior Brown Bag event. We enjoy meeting participants who sample, and receive recipes and tips on eating healthy on a budget.
  • Coordination with the Wellness Center at Mariposa County Health & Human Services to provide adult healthy eating and cooking classes, and tips on how to stay active.
  • Collaborate with local food pantries, and Merced County Food Bank to implement healthy food choice and donation strategies.
