Business Universal Waste Program

What is a Universal Waste? Universal wastes are hazardous wastes that are generated by a wide variety of people and businesses and that contain mercury, lead, cadmium, copper and other substances hazardous to human and environmental health. Examples of these wastes are batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, and some electronic devices. The State of California prohibits these items from landfill disposal.

Cost Effective Handling

Mariposa County Public Works has established a business program that provides a cost effective way for businesses to properly handle these materials. The fee schedule is included below and reflects the direct vendor costs.

Business universal waste will be accepted by appointment only at the Mariposa County Landfill, Compost Facility and Recycling Center located at 5593 Highway 49.
